Seaside memories

Anzio is the birthplace of the controversial Emperor Nero. The port is an international tourist destination because of its wealth of sites of high historical and cultural value. To truly get to know this borgo overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, one must visit a few characteristic spots. Among them is the nostalgic cemetery that houses the souls of soldiers who perished during the epochal disembarkation of American troops attempting to liberate Italy during World War II. In the early twentieth century, Anzio became an elegant seaside village where many well-known Roman bourgeois families vacationed. The town’s glorious past is still evident from the remains of the Villa Imperiale, Nero’s iconic villa between the lighthouse and the Neronian harbor. To round out the experience, you will savor the local cuisine, whose origin lies in the maritime homemade recipes born within the harbor itself.
